What determines the price of a car key?
Four factors matter. First, the key type: a transponder key costs less than a full smart key or keyless entry system. Second, the car make: European brands such as Volkswagen and Renault are generally cheaper than BMW, Mercedes or Lexus. Third, whether you still have a working original: copying a key is cheaper than programming one from scratch. Finally, whether you go to a dealer, a garage or an on-site specialist.
